Step 1: Place your baby on their back and remove the used diaper. Wrap it up and tape it to seal the package. Throw the diaper in the diaper pail or set it aside to throw in the trash later. If you’re throwing the diaper in the trash, you may want to put it in a plastic bag first to reduce the smell.
Step 2: Gently clean your baby’s diaper area, taking care to clean between the folds of skin. You can use gentle diaper wipes, such as NewClears Sensitive Wipes, or you can use a damp washcloth. Remember to wipe from front to back.
Step 3: If your baby develops diaper rash, apply diaper rash ointment or barrier cream to the affected area.
Step 4: Carefully lift your baby’s legs and lower body ankles and place a clean diaper underneath. The colored markings should be on the front, facing you. Then, pull the front of the diaper between your baby’s legs and place it on your baby’s belly.
Step 5: Lift the flaps on the left and right sides of the diaper, and stick the tape on the flaps to the front of the diaper. Make sure the diaper is not too tight or too loose. To check this, you should be able to comfortably place two fingers between the diaper and your baby’s stomach. Labels should be symmetrical. Turn the leg openings inside out to prevent leaks.
When finished, make sure your baby is in a safe place, wash your hands and clean the diaper changing area, including the changing table and pad.
